NAGA CITY, Camarines Sur— A younger brother of former first lady now Rep. Imelda Romualdez Marcos is running for the position of village chief of Barangay Tambo of Pamplona, some 20 kilometers of this city.

The matriarch of the former First Family reportedly owns a vast tract of land and houses in Pamplona, which is part of the Second Congressional District represented by Rep. Diosdado Arroyo, son of former President now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Records at the Commission on Elections showed Armando Trinidad Romualdez, 76, has filed his certificate of candidacy as barangay captain for the October 28 barangay election.

According to Pamplona Acting Election Officer Irene S. Morga, Tambo, which is along the Maharlika Highway, has registered voters of 1,800. The town has a total 3,000 people and 50,000 heads of cattle.

The records showed Romualdez filed his candidacy on October 11, the first day of the filing for local election candidates.

Saying he is the second to the youngest among the six siblings, Romualdez’s credentials showed he is an agriculture graduate at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, where he met and married his wife, Vilma Avila of Pamplona town. His record also showed he had been a voter of Pamplona during the past 15 years and shuttling between Manila and Pamplona almost every week.

The Romualdez clan owns 75 hectares of property and has reportedly donated 3 hectares for a cemetery site, 5.5 hectares for the landless, and 6 hectares for the municipal building and road site.

Win or lose, Romualdez said he would attend to the irrigation of some 6,000 hectares of rice land, installation of household-water system, and development of livestock industry for Tambo residents.
